Training 101 in Inspection of Tailings Dam and Dike Structures - March 12, 2026
This 101 training course aims to provide a structured and operational overview of the principles of management, monitoring, and inspection of tailings dams and dikes, with a focus on safety, performance, and regulatory compliance. The training is based on concrete examples from mining sites and aims at the direct application of best practices in an operational and regulatory framework. This training is intended for participants who wish to gain a general understanding of the basic concepts.
The 101 training course on inspection of tailings pond dams and levees covers the following concepts:
· Module 1 – Introduction to tailings ponds and dikes: key concepts, roles, and responsibilities
· Module 2 – Overview of tailings pond monitoring: objectives, frequency, and organization of monitoring
· Module 3 – Inspections: types of inspections, field observations, and identification of warning signs
· Module 4 – Instrumentation: principles, data reading, and monitoring the behavior of structures
· Module 5 – Risk management, corrective measures, and emergency preparedness: risk analysis, corrective actions, and emergency preparedness
This training can be counted as continuing education with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ). A certificate of participation will be issued at the end of the training.
Lunch and coffee breaks are included.
