101 course in the inspection of dykes and tailings dams - March 12, 2026

This 101 course aims to provide a general structured and operational understanding of the principles of management, monitoring, and inspection of tailings dam and dam management principles, in a context of safety, performance and regulatory compliance. The training is based on concrete examples from mining sites and aims at the direct application of good practices in an operational and regulatory framework. This training is intended for participants who want to have a general understanding of basic concepts.

Description

The 101 course in inspecting dykes and tailings dams covers the following concepts:

· Module 1 — Introduction to tailings farms and dykes: key concepts, roles and responsibilities

· Module 2 — General information on the monitoring of waste management facilities (PAR): objectives, frequency and organization of monitoring

· Module 3 — Inspections: types of inspections, field observations and identification of warning signs

· Module 4 — Instrumentation: principles, data reading and monitoring the behavior of structures

· Module 5 — Risk Management, Corrective Work and Emergency Preparedness: Risk Analysis, Corrective Actions, and Emergency Preparedness

This training can be counted as part of continuing education with the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ). A certificate of participation will be given at the end of the training.

Lunch and coffee breaks are included.
